SOAP INSTRUCTIONS
Scripture:
Allow the Holy Spirit to emphasize a verse or two to you. Then write that down. *HINT – It won’t be a verse that you don’t understand or you find to be confusing. This verse has caught your attention for a reason – and you’re about to find out. If you write too many verses, then the other steps become much more complicated and less meaningful.
Observation:
Make some basic observations about your verse and write them down. What do you think the author was trying to communicate to the people who originally read these verses? What was the main point of the verse or verses you wrote down? What stood out to you? Who was the audience?
Application:
In this step you will answer the question, “How do these observations – change me?” Questions like: What am I supposed to do now? How will I be different? What commands, encouragement, or promises can I apply to my life? – will help you make one very clear application.
Prayer:
Now is the time to talk transparently with God. Maybe confessing your need for Him, praising Him, embracing His plan for your life. Ask for His help and His wisdom. Writing out a prayer really helps cement everything that has happened in your mind and heart. Remember, The Lord loves you.
